Jon with his parents, Werner and Lieselotte Schmidt.

Receiving this encouragement from the Lord that Jon’s pursuing this career was His will gave us the confidence to then plead in great faith for His help in delivering us from the overwhelming bondage of debt we found ourselves in. We began praying for the exact amount of money we needed to get out of debt. We had no idea where the money would come from. But we figured we would pray for a certain sum one month and then the rest the next month. We put our whole trust in the Lord and begged for help.

A few days later we received a check in the mail from Deseret Book for Jon’s new sheet-music book he had recently produced. We were expecting a check, but we had no idea it would be as much as we received. This was a huge blessing and answer to our prayers. And then the same day Deseret Book put in another big order for more sheet-music books.

How could we ever survive without our trust in and utter dependence upon the Lord? He had been so good to us. He even blessed us with a little extra for Spencer’s birthday. I was so thankful. There was no adequate way to express it.

As I pondered upon these events, I realized that it was wisdom in the Lord that He had kept us in our humbled position, one that had enabled us to grow and learn many spiritual things. And I felt a complete feeling of peace, and even gratitude, for the things we had suffered. I truly felt a desire to testify as much as I could of God and of His power of deliverance.

Even with this miracle of deliverance, it just didn’t seem like we would ever make enough to get ahead. We just prayed and somehow scraped by month after month. And yet, I knew the Lord fulfilled all of His promises, and I
